Mats with brains. Make them thicker where you need it for comfort and warmth (bum and back) and thinner where you don't need it to keep the weight down. Pretty smart.
The top fabric of the mat has a soft, velvety feel against the skin - great for those hot nights when you don't want to be fully zipped into your bag. The Cruiser Lite is a great all round mat for Australian conditions. We'd even go above the snowline with it if we wanted to keep the weight of our packs down, as long as we'd packed a 4 season sleeping bag. The mats pack down nicely (stuff sack included) and come with a repair kit should you be unfortunate enough to lay in a prickly spot.
