Fitting Room
Generally you know what size you are right? That works pretty well when buying online and if you get it wrong, no worries, an exchange is a simple process. If you want to be absolutely certain, then we have the following guidelines to assist with your purchase;
Clothes
Individual brands specify their own measurements and as a result these will vary from one to another. Some will be metric, some imperial – it all depends on the origin of the brand and their own standards. Generally though, they all use the following key measurements to help determine the correct garment size;
1. Neck - measure the circumference of your neck where a collared shirt would normally close.
2. Chest - measure the circumference of your chest at its broadest point
3. Waist - measure the circumference of your waist at or just below your belly button.
4. Hip - measure the circumference of your hip at its fullest point (the fattest part of your bum!)
5. Inseam - measure the distance from the crotch point to the floor.
6. Centre Back - this is a reference to the length of the jacket. It doesn't appear in the fit chart but usually appears in the garment specs on the site. The measurement starts at the base of your neck and will allow you to distinguish the difference between a short cut jacket and a full length parka.
7. Sleeve length - measure the distance from the prominent vertebra at the base of your neck, across the shoulder and along the outside of your slightly bent arm to the wrist.
Traps for young players
• Women's Pant Sizing. Some American brands, such as The North Face and Prana, us US sizing for fitted waists which differs from Australian sizing. For example, a US 8 = medium = .AUS 11-12. This is an area where it definately makes sense to get the tape measure and check your dimensions.
• While taking your measurements, be sure to keep the tape measure flat against your body for accuracy.
• To take into account layering pieces you may be wearing under a jacket, take your measurements with these pieces on.
Footwear
Buying footwear online can be tricky but we have a few tips to make this a convenient and easy way to get shoes delivered to your door
• Most footwear brands have a size chart that allows conversion between US, UK, Euro and Centimetres. If you know your size in any of these, you're well on your way.
• If you have purchased footwear from a particular brand and you know what size works for you - great! Most brands are fairly consistent with their sizing from one style to another, so you should get a good fit.
• If you have absolutely no idea what size you are, you can measure your feet with a ruler in centimetres and then use the sizing chart to convert. If you are going to do this, consider the following;
→ Place the ruler on the floor up against a wall or edge
→ Place your heel against the wall or edge and apply your full weight
→ Measure wearing the socks that you anticipate wearing with the shoes or boots
→ Measure twice (to be sure, to be sure)
→ Measure left and right foot using the larger of the two measurements
→ Add 0.5 to 1 cm to your measured size to determine required size (you need at least a thumbs space down the back of your shoe or boot for it to fit properly).
→ If in doubt, buy two sizes and ship on back.
• Lastly, when your shoes arrive, wear them on carpeted floors for several minutes to be confident they are comfortable and the correct size.
